Special Collections
The University of Sussex holds a number of internationally acclaimed archival, manuscript and rare book collections, mostly relating to 20th century literary, politicial and social history. Our special collections include
-Bloomsbury Archives including the papers of Virginia Woolf and Leonard Woolf
-Common Wealth Party Archive: papers of the British political party Common Wealth, 1940-1990
-JG Crowther Archive: papers of the science journalist and British Council policy maker
-Geoffrey Gorer archive: papers of the social anthropologist
-Rudyard Kipling Archive: personal papers of Kipling and his family
-Charles Madge Archive: papers of the acclaimed poet, sociologist and co-founder of Mass Observation
-Mass Observation Archive: pioneering social research organisation
-Harvey Matusow Archive: 20th century American politics, cultural history and underground movements.
-Frank Muir and Denis Norden Archive: over 600 radio and television scripts by the 2 of the foremost British comedy writers of the 1950's and 60's,
European Documentation Centre (EDC)
The EDC is a collection of the publications and documents of the EU, intended primarily to support academic study and research on Europe. EDCs receive copies of the majority of publications issued by EUR-OP (the Office for Official Publications for the European Union). The printed collection concists of:
-Reference materials including guides, glossaries, handbooks, bibliographies, information on research and current awareness
-Legislation, the Treaties, the Offical Journal, the COM documents
-Publications of the institutions of the EU
-European Parliament
-Council of Europe including the European Commisssion of Human Rights
-European Organisations
-International collection including GATT, NATO, UN and the World Bank,
