The library contains the following collections (subjects are in brackets)
London Library Collection
Founded in 1841, the collection now numbers over one million volumes, in all major (and many minor) European languages,
with books dating from the 16th century.
The subject range is broad and eclectic: Biography and History, Literature, Fiction (novels and short-stories); Art and Architecture, Science, Social Sciences, travel, topography, exploration, Religion, Philosophy, Philology and Bibliography. In addition, the Library has collected the periodicals of learned societies as well as magazines of cultural, social and political interest. There is a full run of The Times newspaper from circa 1820 until 2000 on open shelves (complemented by electronic access to the entire Times Digital Archive 1785-1985). The collection of pamphlets and official publications covers a wide range of political, social, economic and religious subjects.,
