About Libraries & Learners in London
The Libraries and Learners in London scheme allows members of the public to have access to a specialist or academic library for a single vist for reference purposes only. To use the scheme you must apply via your local public library where the staff will:
- Match your information needs to the most suitable academic or specialist library / libraries.
- Give you location and contact information for these libraries and/or in some cases telephone in advance of your visit.
- Provide you with a formal introduction to the library / libraries, requesting admittance to their collections.
On arrival at the academic or specialist library you will need to show that you have been referred through the LLiL scheme and staff will:
- Give you basic help in locating collections and using the library catalogue.
- Direct you towards any printed help-sheets or other library guides.
If you are a registered student or researcher on a taught course you should refer instead to the UK Libraries Plus scheme
If you are a researcher or academic you should refer to SRX ( SCONUL Research Extra) scheme
Please note:
- Libraries & Learners in London gives you reference access to the academic and specialist libraries and is not for borrowing books or other materials
- Many libraries however do have an external borrowers scheme, giving you limited loan privileges on payment of a subscription.
- Most libraries will allow you access to self-service photocopiers for a small fee.
